Note: Everyone in the class will be working towards a group number. We will also be building a simple costume. Vivienne will provide some supplies, and students will need to purchase other items outside of class. Each costume should cost about $30-$50 each, possibly less if sourced on ebay/thrift/discount.

Note: The graduation recital is not required.

Sundays

February 19, 1-3pm-

  • 1-1:30 pm Burlesque History
    How did burlesque start? Why did it die out? Why has it come back today and what does it look like now? Vivienne will answer these and many more questions about the history of burlesque and striptease. Accompanied by a helpful PowerPoint slide show.

  • 1:30-2 pm The Basic Moves
    Learn the shimmy, the bump and the grind.

  • 2-3 pm Group choreography
    We'll begin the group number and discuss the group costume.

Homework: Rehearse group number, buy parts for costuming, watch recommended video clips

February 26, 1-3pm-

  • 1-2:30 pm Costume Craft Class
    Work on costumes together. Vivienne will bring her sewing machine, and glue gun, please bring scissors and any other tools you think you might need.
    We'll also discuss picking your "Burlesque Name" how to pick and use music and the steps to creating a burlesque act.

  • 2:30-3 pm Rehearse Group Number

Homework: Rehearse, finish costume

  • 1-1:30 pm Pastie Making!
    Learn to make a simple set of pasties to match your costume!

  • 1:30-3 pm Polish and shine!
    This is our final class together so we'll spend most of the class working on the group number. We'll also discuss character and how to stand out in a group without overshadowing the group. We'll also talk about stage confidence and poise.
